Los Angeles Are You Ready?
"OK LADIES NOW LET'S GET IN FORMATION"
The CROWN Act was first introduced in California in January, 2019 by Senator Holly Mitchell (District 30) and was signed into law by Governor Newsom in California on July 3rd to go into effect January 1, 2020. New York quickly followed suit under the deft leadership of Assemblywoman Tremaine Wright (D-Bedford-Stuyvesant, Northern Crown Heights) and Senator Jamaal Bailey
(D-Bronx, Westchester), and Governor Cuomo signed the CROWN Act into law on July 12th, deeming the legislation effective immediately in the state of New York.
New Jersey is currently considering The CROWN Act authored by Senator Sandra Cunningham and Assemblywoman Angela McKnight (District 31). We expect The CROWN Act to be heard before the end of the year, and are pushing for passing in this state where Andrew Johnson’s locs were violently cut during a high school wrestling match last December.
Twelve (12) additional states are considering the CROWN Act and have either pre-filed, filed or formally stated an intent to introduce their own anti-hair discrimination bills, including Michigan, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia.
The city of Cincinnati, Ohio and Montgomery County, MD have also passed The CROWN Act in those local and county municipalities.
Official rehearsals will be held on the following dates. The location for all rehearsals will be announced well in advance of the first rehearsal. Location and schedule might change due to space availability.
